1) Advanced Placement Testing begins on Monday, May 7. Students scheduled to take the AP Chemistry and AP Environmetal Science exams should report to the media center by 7:30 am. Tomorrow's AP Pyschology exam will be administered at noon.
2) The Arts Department will present the Spring Chorus concert "Dance to the Music" on Monday at 7pm.
3) The junior Class will host Prom 2012 on Saturday, May 12 at the Durham Marriott beginning at 8pm. Tickets are now $85 for the event.
4) Beginning Monday, May 7,at 2:45pm the testing department will host an EOC bootcamp for all students taking Alg I, Biology, and English I. The program will run Monday-Thursday from 2:45-4:15 until May 24. All EOC students are invited to attend.

1) Seniors, Monday, April 30th begins Senior Week. Please see the southern high school website for daily events.
2) There will be a Spring Fling Dance on Friday, May 4th from 9-12pm. Advanced tickets are $5 and admission at the door is $8.
3) Durham Public Schools will be hosting Saturday Academy for all students in EOC courses on Saturday, May 5th at Holton beginning at 8:30 am.
4) Athletic competitions include: Tuesday, golf @ Hillside, PAC 6 Conference track meet @ Riverside, and Baseball and softball @ East Chapel Hill at 4:30 pm; Wednesday PAC 6 conference track meet @ Riverside; and Friday Baseball and Softball @home v. Northern at 7pm.

1) The 3rd quarter Honor Roll Breakfast will be held on Tuesday, April 17th at 9:05 am in the cafeteria.
2) The Student Government Association and the Junior Class will host a Yard Sale on Saturday, April 21st.
3) Athletic competitions for the week include: Tuesday, Golf at Northern at 3:30 pm and Baseball and Softball at Hillside at 7 and 5pm respectively; Wednesday, track at Northern at 4pm; Friday, softball and baseball at home vs. Person at 6 and 7pm respectively; and Saturday, April 21 select members of the track team will be in competition at NC A&T State University at 9am.

1) Southern High School will be celebrating Peace Week during the week of March 12th-16th. Wednesday, March 14 is Dress for Success Day, and we will be having our annual Peace Rally on Thursday, March 15th. Power to the Peaceful!
2) There will be a Growth Breakfast on Tuesday, March 13 at 8:30am for all students who met or exceeded their growth goals for the fall end of course tests. Passes will be distributed during first period.
3) There will be a Career Fair in the gym on Friday, March 16th.

1) There will be a PTSA meeting on Monday, March 5 at 6:30 in the media center.
2) On Tuesday, March 6 all juniors will be participating in the statewide administration of the ACT college entrance exam. All juniors should be report to the math hallway at 7:30 on Tuesday. Any 11th grader who has not completed the pretest session should see Ms. Kelly-Johnson on Monday morning.
3) Ms. Leak and the yearbook staff will be hosting a Yearbook Senior Ad parent night on Wednesday, March 7 from 6-7pm.
4) Progress reports will be distributed on Thursday, March 8.

1) All parents of students in Advanced Placement courses are asked to make payments toward the AP exam by March 1. The exam fee is $87 per exam and $53 per exam for students free/reduced lunch. Please contact Ms. Talecia Kelly-Johnson for more information.
2) The State of North Carolina is mandating the administration of the ACT college entrance exam to all high school juniors on Tuesday, March 6th. 11th graders are asked to visit the website actstudent.org for information on the upcoming test.
3) The next driver's Education class will begin on Monday, February 27th. Students must sign up and pay the $45 registration fee prior to attending the class. Registration may be completed at www.dpsnc.net. If you have any questions please contact Coach Daniel.

1) Access testing will continue this week for all LEP students. Students requiring testing will be called from their respective classes.
2 )Progress reports will be distributed in Tuesday., Feb. 14th. All parents with Jupiter grades access please log on for your student's updated progress. Parents if you do not have access to Jupiter grades please contact Ms. Deidrea Stevens, Assistant Principal.
3) The DPS Evening of Entertainment will be held on Wednesday, Feb 15 at the DPAC beginning at 7pm.
4) All parents of students taking Advanced Placement courses the payment deadline for AP testing is March 1st. Please contact Ms. Talecia Kelly-Johnson if you have any questions.
5) This week's athletic competitions include: The PAC 6 basketball tournament will begin on Tuesday. The Varsity Girls will be playing at home v. Northern at 6pm. The Varsity Boys will be playing at Jordan at 7:30pm. On Friday and Saturday, the Wrestling team will be in regional tournament action at Lee County High School. There will be a baseball scrimmage at East Wake High School on Saturday at 12pm.

1) Seniors, Lifetouch will be in the auditorium on Monday, January 30th to take cap and gown pictures. You may not be photographed without paying your sitting fee.

1)School will be closed on Monday, January 16, in observance of the Martin Luther King, Jr Holiday.
2)Exams will resume on Tuesday, January 17. School will be released at 12:30 on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. All students needing to remain for review and remediation will be released at 2:30. Students will be transported by school bus at 12:30 and 2:30. Friday, January 20th is a regular school day and the testing team will be administering exam make-ups and retests.
3)The Arts Department will present its Winter Dance Concert on Wednesday January 19 at 7pm and again on Saturday, January 21 at 7pm.
4) DPS will host a Magnet Fair at Hillside High School on Saturday, January 21 from 2-5pm
5) Senior portrait and cap and gown photos will be taken on Monday January 30th. Seniors are also reminded that yearbook and senior ad sales will end on February 10th.
6) The Southern High School Modeling Troupe will be participating in a Step and Modeling Expo on Saturday, January 21 at 6pm at The Palace Convention Center.
7) Dr. Eric Becoats will be presenting his State of the Schools address on Wednesday, January 25 at 5:30pm at Riverside High School. The address will also be shown live on our district website @www.dpsnc.net.

1) There will be an EOC parent night on Monday, January 9th from 6-7:30 in the cafeteria. Parents of students taking Alg I, Eng I, and Biology are asked to attend to learn more about the upcoming exams that are vital to your child's matriculation at SHS. Refreshments will be served.
2) On Monday, January 9th at 6:30 pm the Guidance department will host a CFNC financial Aid night in the media center.
3) Wednesday, January 11th is a PLC early release day. School will be dismissed at 12:30 pm.
4)1st period Exams will be administered on Friday, January 13th. Students are asked to get a substantial amount of rest, eat a hearty breakfast, and report to school on time.
5) In honor of our football players and their successful season, the coaching staff will host a Football Banquet on Sunday, January 15th at 3pm in the media center.

2) Athletic Competitions for this week include: Girls Basketball at Northern Guilford on Tuesday, Nov. 22nd beginning at 6 pm and also on Tuesday the Boys Basketball teams will host Millbrook in the Spartan Gymnasium beginning at 6pm.
3) School will be closed on Wednesday, November 22nd-Friday November 25 for a student vacation day and in recognition of the Thanksgiving Holiday.

1) It's Homecoming Y'all....Please join the Student Government
Association in Celebrating Homecoming 2011. Monday October 10th is
Blast from the Past Day and there will be a Spirit Night Homecoming
Kick-off At Chick-fil-a on Hillsborough. This fundraising event
supports Prom. Please see posters and flyers for the remainder of the
week's events.

1) Seniors, a representative from Jostens will be at Southern on
Wednesday and Thursday, October 5th and 6th to take Cap and Gown
orders. Jostens will also be hosting a Parent Night in the Media center
on Wednesday from 5:30-6:30pm.
2) On Thursday, October 6 at 6 pm the guidance department will host a
9th/10th grade and PSAT parent information night. This event will take
place in the media center. The 11th/12th grade parent information night
will be held on Thursday, Oct 13.
3)The Southern High School PTSA will have a meeting of all current and
prospective members on October 11 at 6pm in the media center. Please
come out to support the SHS Parent Teacher Student Association.

5) On Saturday, October 8th from 8-12pm FCCLA and FBLA will be hosting
a Community Yard Sale to raise funds that will enable students to
attend the respective state competitions. Please support by renting a

Person; Tuesday Volleyball @ Jordan; Thursday, Soccer @ Hillside,
Volleyball v. Riverside, and JV football v. Riverside. The Varsity
Football team will travel to Riverside on Friday, Oct 7. Game time is
