Avid Student Award
Saturday, 04 April 2009

Congratulations, Vianey Martinez!

Vianey Martinez, 9th grade AVID student, was the recipient of a desk top computer given by the Kramden Institute, a non-profit organization.  Kramden awards computers to students based on their  hard work, dedication, and participation in the AVID program.  "Vianey was chosen because of all of the above attributes. She is truly a joy to teach and I expect wonderful things from her in the future. She is the example of a great student" says Mr. Biggs, AVID Coordinator/Elective Teacher.

Again, Congratulations Vianey and keep up the great work. We are proud of you!

Forensics Class
Wednesday, 04 March 2009

Cheryl Dawes of Duke spoke with Ms. Chance's Forensics Class about "Intimate Partner Violence" on February 18th.  The presentation supports the growing awareness of this issue amongst teenagers.  Students shared personal stories and were able to receive information about programs to assist them and others subjected to such acts of violence.  Students were quite receptive and expressed a concern to educate the entire community so that the vicious "cycle of violence" may be stopped.  Take a look at the Southern Calendar for a schedule of upcoming speakers in the Forensics Class.
